Travel: Matheran under the starry sky

Away from the gridlocks of taxis and rickshaws, plan a weekend getaway to the hilly town of Matheran, next weekend. The trek will follow a picturesque route via Panvel.

"It is a medium-grade trek where guests will cross a village, climb up a ridge, pass through a forest and then enter Matheran through sunset point. They will spot riverbeds and grasslands too. As we head higher, we will see the Chanderi mountain range and a few villages around," adds Parth Upadhyay, the trek leader.

The group will meet at Panvel railway station and begin the trek by 11 pm. It is expected to reach the summit by 2.30 am. Post the trek, participants can catch a short nap or gaze at the stars.

On day two, they are free to explore Louisiana Point below the orange-hued sky and enjoy a hearty breakfast. By 9 am, the group will leave for Dasturi Naka, take a cab to Neral station and return to Mumbai via train.
